Charity shop sells copy of the White Album for 2350£
More than once The Beatles‘ White Album has been sold on vinyl for a whole lot of money. In 2013 a signed copy was sold for more than $200,000. The proceeds for the British Heart Foundation may seem relatively modest in comparison. The charity organization received a donated copy of the record, which they listed on eBay with a starting price of £999.99. In the end 29 bids were placed and the vinyl sold for a price of £2350. The auctioned vinyl edition from 1968 still contained all the inserts, a foldout poster and the four colored prints of the Fab Four.
More than 200 white label pressings sold at an auction
At an auction for the BRIT Trust, a charitable organization for recorded music in the UK, which was founded in 1989 by British record labels, white label pressings from 160 artists and bands were offered. Among them were The Cure, Pulp, Led Zeppelin and New Order. Many of the pressings were signed. The highest price was achieved by a fully signed test pressing of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s „Welcome To The Pleasuredome“ for £3500. Following that were nearly a dozen pressings of The Cure, personally signed by Robert Smith, as well as a test pressing of Madness, which went under the hammer for £1500. You can find all the auction results summarized on the Omega Auctions website.
Record store in Italy launches fundraiser after being destroyed by flood
Severe storms and heavy rainfall in late May caused massive flooding in Italy. Over 36,000 people had to evacuate their homes. Unfortunately a record store called Flexi in Lugo, Emilia Romagna, which opened in 1984, was also affected by the flood. Nearly 2,000 vinyl records were completely destroyed by the water masses. Furniture, shelves and equipment such as speakers and PCs were also damaged. In order to be able to restart, owner Simone Guerra has launched a fundraising page on GoFundMe with a donation goal of €10,000.
Star of Celtic Glasgow seen crate digging in a record store
While it is a common occurrence for people to buy vinyl records at record stores, it is rarely newsworthy. It doesn’t happen very often though that a well-known footballer posts a picture online about visiting a record store. This is precisely what happened with Portuguese striker Jota, who is currently under contract with Celtic Glasgow. He posted a photo on Instagram of himself browsing through the record shelves at Music From Big Blue in the famous Hidden Lane in Glasgow. The caption read „Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way.“ It is not entirely clear whether this means he went home with a vinyl record by the band. Nevertheless, the photo garnered over 37,000 likes and predominantly positive comments.
