Atoms for Peace ist ein Nebenprojekt von Radiohead-Mastermind Thom Yorke. Für AMOK hat sich Yorke mit Produzent Nigel Godrich, Flea von den Red Hot Chili Peppers am Bass, Joey Waronker an den Drums und Percussionist Mauro Refosco zusammen getan. Das schlicht in schwarz-weiß gehaltene Albumartwork, das lediglich auf dem Cover mit etwas glänzendem Silber aufgelockert wird, stammt vom englischen Künstler Stanley Donwood. Donwood hat zusammen mit Thom Yorke an der University of Exeter Kunst studiert und ist auch für das Artwork von Radioheads Alben zuständig. Die Ähnlichkeit des Artworks zu Thom Yorkes Soloausflug „Eraser“ aus dem Jahre 2006 ist unübersehbar. Die Limited Edition erscheint als Triple Gatefold mit zwei LPs plus CD. Kritiken/Stimmen:
Die Kritiken für den Erstling der Band schwankten zwischen absoluter Begeisterung und enttäuschter Erwartungshaltung, was angesichts der Bandbesetzung nicht verwundern kann. Bezeichnend ist der letzte Absatz der Rezension auf Pitchfork: „And that’s ultimately the most frustrating thing about AMOK: the fact that you can hear the great potential in every song, and so easily imagine how the hand-clapped hook of „Judge, Jury, and Executioner,“ the percussive breakdown of „Unless,“ and the creeping exasperation of „Reverse Running“ would absolutely pop with a more vigorous attack. No doubt, like The Eraser, these songs will go down a like a storm in a live setting. But, given the caliber of players Yorke has on hand this time around, it’s disappointing that we still have to make that assumption.“ In zahlreichen Rezensionen wurde der mangelnde Einfluss der übrigen Musiker beklagt. AMOK klinge zu sehr nach Radiohead oder wie eine Fortsetzung von Thom Yorkes Soloalbum „Eraser“. So heißt es u.a. bei Consequence of Sound: „Despite being surrounded by some of the industry’s top-level talent AMOK comes off as an email attachment from the deep, dark abyss that is Yorke’s mind.“

„Vielleicht lehne ich mich jetzt weit aus dem Fenster, aber ich halte “Amok” für das aufregendste Projekt Yorkes seit “In Rainbows”. Ähnlich experimentell in der Grundausrichtung wie “Kid A” oder auch “Amnesiac”, geht es zielgerichtet zu Werke und erschafft einen knapp 45minütigen Sog.“ (Nicorola)
